The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Greater Houston Area is happy to conduct its annual LDS Camporee for 11-13 year old scouts. The camporee will occur at the Bovay Scout Ranch near Navasota, Texas on October 21-22, 2011. The theme this year is The Houston Battalion in remembrance of the Mormon Battalion experience of 1846-47.
Special Notices:
-
Due to recent drought conditions the camp has prohibited all fires and any use of propane or other gas or liquid fuels (not even for propane lanterns). Not only can there be no open flames, the Sam Houston Area Council has also stipulated that there should be no heat source of any nature used at Bovay during this season. This means that all the meals will be cold ones. In addition, vehicles may not go on the grass due to the risk of igniting a fire.
-
Each scout should bring a sharp pocketknife to the Camporee to use in one of the events. Therefore the boys should have also been previously trained in knife safety including earning and possessing a “Totin’ Chip”.
